Well-behaved dogs and dog owners of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to participate in this year’s Dog Costume Contest, a highlight of Sausalito’s annual Halloween festivities on Tuesday, October 31.

The contest will be held in Robin Sweeny Park at approximately 6:30 p.m., soon after the conclusion of the 6:00 p.m. Halloween Parade down Caledonia Street. No advance registration is necessary, and there is no charge to participate in the event.

There will be three contest categories: best little dog, best big dog, and best couple (human and dog). The Parks and Recreation Department expects as many as 40 dogs to participate.

Contestants will walk their dogs before spectators and judges along a “runway” on the sidewalk fronting the park.

Judging will be done by representatives from Soulmates Animal Care, the sponsor of this year’s contest. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

The contest should conclude at approximately 7:15 p.m., giving everyone time to visit Trick or Treat Lane on the basketball courts and the Haunted House on the lower level of City Hall.

Any questions about the Dog Costume Contest or Halloween Sausalito can be directed to the Parks and Recreation Department at (415) 289-4152 or recreation@sausalito.gov.
